67% Reduction in Fertilizer Use, Increased Brix Rating, & Larger Fruit Size of Plums in the USA
Date: July 2020 (summer)
Place: California, USA
Details: Alvarez Harvesting grows several varieties of tree fruit. The owner, Gabe Alvarez, contacted us because one of his fields was underperforming. The plums in that field were not growing to the expected size, despite extra care. This threatened to ruin his yield, as he would have had to either let that field go unharvested or pay extra labor fees to harvest that field later in the season. Gabe installed the Kyminasi Plant Booster (KPB) system on the troubled field about nine days before harvest.
Results
Within three days, Gabe had already noticed that the KPB plum trees looked healthier and the fruit started increasing in size. By harvest time, the KPB fruit size had increased to the same size as the other fields. KPB allowed Mr. Alvarez to harvest all of his fields at the same time, and this saved him a lot of money in labor costs. The KPB plums measured 17–22 degrees Brix, where his normal Brix rating was 15–17 degrees Brix. That year, Gabe only used one application of nitrates, fertilizers, and herbicides. Normally, he had to use three or more applications per year. KPB saved him about $74 per acre on input costs. Gabe stated that he was also expecting to see larger plum sizes and better Brix ratings on his later varieties that year. Gabe was also going to conduct Brix and shelf-life testing on his Friar plums and nectarines as well.
